Yes, I should say something about harassment.

I usually don’t speak up about much online.  It’s a combination two things.  First, I’m a fairly even-keel sorta guy. While sure I get annoyed by things all the time I rarely get so infuriated that I feel the need to vent publicly.  Second, normally by the time I’ve thoroughly collected my thoughts on a matter they’ve already been articulated by someone else and often much more clearly and intelligently than I would have.

Fuck it.  I may only be one late-coming voice among many here but I’m happy to add to the chorus.

Like much of the comics internet I read Janelle Asselin’s CBR piece about that Teen Titans cover and I thought she made a number of good points.  This backlash against her is absolutely nauseating and repugnant.

I understand how and why people get defensive when they, their friends, or creators they like/admire are criticized. But the virulent misogyny dripping from the mouths and fingers of so many of her attackers is absolutely unforgivable and intolerable.  You (and you know who you are) should be ashamed of yourselves.

People disagree all the time.  It’s just how things are.  I personally find that reasoned, passionate debate can be really enjoyable.  But to resort to verbal abuse of any kind, and ESPECIALLY charged with sexual threat, be it implicit or explicit, is the very definition of despicable and it would be irresponsible and immoral for me not to say so.
